Reservoir acquires catalog of Swing legend Louis Prima


Headquarters in New York reservoir Media acquired the portfolio of legendary musician and recording artist Louis Prima from the Gia Maione Prima Foundation.

The deal, for an undisclosed amount, includes rights to both Prima’s published and recorded music portfolio.

A singer, songwriter, trumpeter and actress, Prima is considered one of the most successful entertainers of the big band jazz era.

He wrote and recorded hits, including hit big band swing songs, Sing, Sing, Sing.

New Orleans-born Prima is also famous for his recordings I’m just a Gigolo (I’ve got no one), Coins from Heaven, Let’s call the whole thing off, and Buona Sera (Good night)among many others.

Additionally, he voices King Louie, the orangutan who appeared in Disney’s Oscar-nominated 1967 film The Jungle Book, and won a RIAA Gold certification for outstanding soundtrack I Wan’na Be Like You (The Monkey Song) by Prima.

Prima’s song Sing, Sing, Sing and albums The wildest! was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame, and he also won his first Grammy in the Vocal Group category for his performance. That old black magic in 1958.

Elsewhere, Prima became one of the first independent record producers, founding Prima Magnagroove Records in 1963, producing his music and signing with other artists through 1975.

In 2010, he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in honor of his centenary.
