Satyagraha Beating Pride, Rahul Gandhi Talks about the Law of Climbing Farms
New Delhi:
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was among the leaders who tweeted minutes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that three agricultural laws that were in place last year would be scrapped.
The announcement on Guru Nanak Jayanti was greeted with much praise in Punjab and Haryana, where farmers protested against three agricultural laws introduced amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mr. Gandhi, whose party is a fierce critic of the agrarian laws introduced under controversial circumstances, did not seem to have lost time to protest Prime Minister Modi’s announcement to repeal the agricultural law.
“The farmers of the country have beaten arrogance with their satyagraha. Jai Hindi, the farmer of Jai Hindi,” Mr. Gandhi tweeted, along with an old tweet from January of this year where he said, ” Mark my words, the government will have to withdraw its word against – cattle law.”
Other leaders of opposition parties at the central level also tweeted to congratulate the farmers – and take a swipe at the Modi government.
“Arrogance goes away. From arrogance to your knees,” Trinamool MP Derek O-Brien tweeted, without naming everyone.
Farmers who have been camping on the outskirts of Delhi for a year have insisted they will not stop protesting unless all three laws are withdrawn. They allege the new laws will give private control over the agricultural sector. The government denied the allegation and even suggested amending the law. It was pointed out that the law would eliminate middlemen. But the farmers continued with nothing but complete repeal of the laws.
