Sony is known to have reduced PS5 production numbers in March to at least 1 million

If you’re someone looking for a PlayStation 5 in time for gift season or even before the end of March, now is going to be even harder.

Buying a PS5 already feels like an arduous task. Unfortunately, according to a new Bloomberg The report, it will be even more challenging as Sony has reportedly cut its PS5 production number target by at least 1 million. The company originally set a target of assembling and manufacturing over 16 million PS5s by the end of March 2022, but this has since dropped to around 15 million.

By Bloomberg The report states that the 16 million target was originally named to hit sales targets for this period and start production for next year. The cause is expected to be due to “logistics problems and spare parts shortages,” which have become increasingly aggravating for Sony, said its chief financial officer Hiroki Totoki during an investment call in October.

PS5 is the first Sony console to reach 10 million units sold fastest; Sony hit this milestone in July. However, Bloomberg reports that speed has lagged due to production issues. Now, PS5 is lagging behind PlayStation 4.

While we wait for more PS5s to become available, read about how Nintendo is going through a similar struggle, has cut Switch production by 20% due to production issues.
