South Carolina Coach Shane Beamer Earns Mayo Bath After Gamecocks Beat North Carolina in Duke’s Mayo Bowl
South Carolina defeated North Carolina 38-21 at Duke’s Mayo Bowl on Thursday, earning Gamecocks head coach Shane Beamer a post-game mayo shower.
After the game’s title ceremony, Beamer sat down on a chair where 4.5 gallons of mayonnaise was poured over the back of his head to celebrate.
“It was everything I dreamed of,” Beamer told ESPN’s Taylor McGregor after the mayo incident. “The cold made me ache in the back of my head, then the mayo, but it was amazing. Definitely a bit heavy. I felt like I was being weighed down in the back. Mayonnaise had never tasted so good, I could not. promise you.”
Beamer added that his clothes won’t be worn again, and said, “They go to some hall of fame in Columbia or something for the people in Carolina back, so I don’t think we will be wearing these soon.”
Along with the mayonnaise shower gel, Beamer was given a check for $10,000 to go to the charity of his choice.
“This is an extraordinary event,” Beamer said. “They’ve done a fantastic job. Our players had so much fun and we’re so grateful to have been part of such a great event and really appreciate the people. helped us this week.”
