Expressing concerns about the Supreme Court’s comments about the workings of Parliament and other legislatures and the way legislation is formulated, several leaders on Sunday spoke to President Rajya Sabha M Venkaiah Naidu that the presiding officer must act in the event of any violation and that other acts constitutional authorities should not make adverse comments about it.

The issue was raised during a meeting of leaders of various parties convened by Venkaiah Naidu at his residence ahead of the Winter Session which began on Monday.

According to the sources, the leaders said that the presiding officials of the legislatures must take appropriate action if the operating rules are violated by any member or party and the constitutional organs Other measures should not comment adversely.

Responding to the leaders, Mr. Naidu said: “I can understand your concerns. But such comments should be viewed in the context of legislative activism marked by persistent disruptions, unruly behavior, and acts of violence with harmful effects.”

“The best way to fight them is to ensure the normal functioning of the legislature by upholding the dignity and decor of the house as such comments are resonating with the public from what is being said. they see,” a source quoted Mr. Naidu as saying at the meeting.

About 40 party leaders and ministers attended the meeting.

While Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi briefed the legislative agenda, Opposition Leader Mallikarjun Kharge and leaders of other parties raised the issues they wanted to discuss during the Session. winter.

Several leaders expressed concern about the course of events during the past Monsoon Session as 70% of the House’s uptime was lost due to continued disruption.

Many leaders emphasized that they supported the smooth running of the House and called for an effective Winter Session.

Mr. Naidu called on the government and the Opposition to regularly communicate with each other to help the House of Representatives operate effectively. The sources added that he has called on all departments to work together to ensure an effective Winter Session.

The Monsoon session of Congress was swept away by the opposition’s demand for a discussion of the Pegasus snooping issue.

The issue persists and the opposition will continue to push its claim, although the Supreme Court has stepped in and set up a committee to look into the matter.

During the Winter Session, the opposition will also seek to raise the issue of protests by farmers and the press to introduce legislation that sets a minimum support price for crops.
