TAJA Collection of Custom Non-Toxic Candles, plus tips to help them burn better and longer

If you are reading Skinny’s Secret by now, you know that TAJA is one of my favorite candle brands because of their customizability. They lose control with how intricately they customize. They have so many options, their scents are delicious and they are just a dream to work with.

TAJA Candles make the best gifts, I have them all over the house and we recently had a lot of custom pineapple candles lighted at Zaza’s birthday party& we gave them to our guests as a party gift. We decided to do a square base engraved with a translucent white pineapple. The scent is great too – Princess Pina.

Annabelle also helped me design candles for bathing sister-in-law’s sister-in-law& bathe my baby. Plus, the TAJA candle is always on my favorite things list for the year.

Anyway, let’s get started with Annabelle right away. In this post, you’ll learn all about the safe ingredients TAJA uses, those you should stay away from, our favorite TAJA scents, and how to care for your candles so they burn better. and more durable.

♡ Introduce yourself to the audience of The Skinny Confidential. How did you get into the candle business?

Annabelle Torgman: In 2017, I am working as an associate at a large law firm. It is, what I think, my dream job. During the holidays, I’m looking for the perfect gift for my secretary. I wanted to give her something so thoughtful and beautiful to express my gratitude. (I always love coming up with thoughtful gifts for family and friends growing up!) She loves plush candles and she loves her cat, so I wanted something to end it with. kiss both. After unsuccessfully searching for it, the idea of TAJA born.

♡ I want to talk about toxic candles. What makes a candle toxic or non-toxic?

IN: There are many things that can make a candle toxic. Some common culprits are: paraffin wax, phthalates, parabens, synthetic dyes, lead wick, and stearic acid. We don’t use any of these – our candles are made from 100% premium soy wax, our wicks are made with organic cotton, nobody Our fragrances contain phthalates or parabens and we never use synthetic dyes. In addition to non-toxic fragrances, we also offer essential oil candles – extracted directly from the created plant, flower or fruit.

Unfortunately, the candle making industry is not as strictly regulated as cosmetics because candles do not touch the skin. However, I believe that should happen, because you are inhaling what the candle burns. Before starting TAJA, I didn’t know that candles could be toxic, so now we do our best to educate consumers.

♡ What is dealing with soy wax? Is it better? Does the candle burn differently?

IN: Soy wax not only makes burns slower but also cleaner, but it’s also vegan and not tested on animals. Our premium soy wax is made from hydrogenated soybean oil, making it a sustainable choice that burns cleanly. Soy wax burns up to 50% longer than paraffin wax because soy wax has a lower melting point than paraffin wax, which means it melts at a cooler temperature and doesn’t burn as quickly.

♡ What ingredients should we absolutely avoid?

IN: The short list is: paraffin wax, phthalates, parabens, synthetic dyes, lead wick, and stearic acid.

♡ How do you take care of your candles? Is there a particular cutter, cutter, or technique you use?

IN: Candle care is such a whole ritual, we even made a blog about it and named it Candle Bible. Proper candle care can add hours to the candle and help it burn more beautifully and evenly. You can purchase the candle scraper & wick trimmer as a set this.

Why inhale? Candle blowers help extinguish your candles in style (& no splashes). The wick trimmer help Keep your candles clean and free of soot. You need to make sure to cut the wick 1/4″ before each light, this will ensure that you have an even flame & don’t produce black smoke or soot.

♡ What is the process of making a candle and why is your candle unique?

IN: Our candles are handcrafted in small batches and we source all ingredients locally. It is important to know what goes into the candle and where the ingredients come from.

Our candles are also made with love (cliche, but true). We are all about energy – what you put into a product when you make it part of the product. Our candle makers are not only hardworking but they are also kind and passionate about what they do. We take our work of making others happy!

♡ You have done a lot of custom candles for me in the past. They make great gifts. What are some of your favorite ideas for custom candles?

IN: I have always been impressed with the creativity of the TAJA community. There are many ways to use candles, some of my favorites are:

♡ Let’s talk about the safety of candles. What are some tips and tricks to be safe with candles, especially if you have kids in the house?

IN: Always keep your candle(s) away from drafts and air conditioning. Do not light near children or pets, or anywhere accessible to them. Do not place the candle(s) on unstable surfaces. Do not burn your candle(s) when the wax is just under ½” from the bottom.

And never leave a candle burning unattended! A good trick is to set a four-hour alarm to remind yourself to blow out your candle(s).

♡ What is your favorite candle scent & why?

IN: My favorite scent changes daily depending on my mood. LAUGH. CHEAPreally i fell in love In the mood & Fresh Eucalyptus. Scent is very personal & depends on the environment you are trying to cultivate (ie Limoni di Capri perfect when I’m cooking and I love lighting Members only when getting ready for a night out). We like to recommend seasonal fragrances and change them up as often as possible to always keep things fresh!

♡ What are your gift ideas that include a custom candle? For example, what would you add if it was a housewarming gift or a baby shower gift?

IN: The more customized the candle, the better. Just a candle that’s nice and pretty enough to stand on its own, especially a candle (the bigger the better, right?!). But if you want something a little extra, pair it with favorite match & One blur set.
