Teofimo Lopez Sr. saying that Rolly fought the wrong way against the Tanks
Via Jim Calfa: Coach Teofimo Lopez Sr. says Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero (14-1, 12 KOs) made a crucial mistake leaning over with his right hand all night during a sixth-round knockout loss to the WBA ‘regular’ lightweight champion ‘ Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis (27-0.25 KOs) on Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Teofimo Sr. says he yelled at Rolly from the audience, trying to get him to stop relying on his punches too often.
That bad kt Rolly trend eventually caught up with him in the sixth round as Gervonta caught him with a left-hand header in a split second before he unleashed a right-hander.
Tank’s left arm gets there first, dropping Rolly onto the canvas above his knees. Rolly got up again but the fight was still stopped by referee David Fields at 2:39 of the sixth round.
“He [Tank Davis] was blown away. This is one of those battles where anyone can be knocked down,” said Teofimo Lopez Sr. talk to Fighthype right after the Davis Tank stopped Rolly Romero in the sixth round.

“I gave the props to Rolly for doing a great job,” said Teofimo Sr. continue. “He learned a lot in this fight. I have never seen him fight like this. He kept his distance really well, and that right hand got me nervous,” said Teofimo Sr. talking about Rolly’s bad habit of leaning forward when throwing his right hand.
“I was shouting, ‘Don’t lean in with your right hand,’ and he was leaning in with all his punches. Once you place the pyramid, you must stay outside.
“There was no way for him to lose that match, but he was carried away. He should have kept winning every round. The only way Tank won that match was by knockout and he did what he had to.
“Props to Tank, he did a great job. Let’s go, it’s a great fight because, in the future, we [Teofimo Lopez Jr] will fight him. No waiting, no running.
“My son is there. We can fight someone. I don’t want to name any, but we will be fighting on August 13. Everything is fine, everything is good.
“My son has started training again. We do the official camp on Monday, and I have to gather the people who will be working with us. I can’t wait to come back and bring back the excitement we saw here today. This *** is really interesting.
