Elon Musk said the Tesla Cybertruck will be manufactured in the US in 2023, and confirmed the delayed electric pickup truck will be the company’s “most suitable product”.
During a stream of the company’s Cyber Rodeo event at their new Giga Texas factory near Austin, Musk and designer Franz von Holzhausen (he’s famous for smashed Cybertruck windows) had a side chat. next to the latest version of the truck, still in concept form.
Driving on wheels more suited to the road, the latest version of the Cybertruck also removes the door handles. “Who needs a handle? The car can just tell you you’re there and know it needs to open up,” Musk said cryptically.
It seems like a prototype has been leakedso don’t believe any hype that this is brand new.
Originally revealed in late 2019 and promised production in 2021, the mass-produced Cybertruck will eventually compete in the US with the Ford F-150 Lightning, Chevrolet Silverado EV, Rivian R1T, Ram 1500 EV, and GMC Hummer regeneration.
In a blow to these cars, delivered despite Tesla’s delays, Mr von Holzhausen confidently boasted that “there was no other truck, everything else was bland in comparison”.
Eloin Musk has apologized for the delay.
“We’re going to have an incredible Cybertruck for you next year that will make you think,” Musk told his corps at Giga Texas.
“… We can’t wait to build these here and deliver them to you. Sorry for the delay, it’s been a few years…”
On the Aussie front, Tesla Model 3 accounts for nearly two-thirds of total electric vehicle sales in Australia between January 1 and March 31, 2022.
You can still pre-order the $150 refundable Cybertruck on the Cybertruck from Tesla’s site in Australia, although we have no official word on a local launch. North America is the obvious focal point, so don’t hold your breath.
