The DJI Action 2 Camera and Mavic 3 Drone Are on Sale Right Now

The weather is becoming warmer, which means more outdoor adventures. If you tend to take a lot of photos during your travels, you should consider action camera or a drone. DJI’s second time going head-to-head with its GoPro competitor — Action 2 — is discount and makes for a great way to document your hiking, biking, climbing, and other adventures.

We still prefer the GoPro because of its larger screen, but DJI’s Action 2 is great for those weighty moments, like when it’s strapped to your helmet or chest. If you’re planning to visit areas that allow drone photography and videography (be sure to check), check out the Mavic 3, it’s also on sale (details below).

Why we like the DJI Action 2

DJI’s Action 2 uses a modular design to keep the main camera unit small and light. The top module in the image above detaches from the screen and can be used on its own, making it so light I barely notice it when I put it on my head. DJI’s RockSteady 2 image stabilization technology smooths your videos for gimbal-like shots even as you’re dancing along.

The company recently updated the Action 2 firmware, fixing a few things we didn’t like in Initial evaluation. Built-in stabilization is now available when recording 4K, 60fps video, along with horizon stabilization, meaning you can keep your footage intact even when the camera is tilted up to 45 degrees . DJI has also improved battery life and added a new stabilization mode. The result is a much more appealing camera, especially if you really want to travel light.

However, there are trade-offs to the modular design. The battery in the camera module only lasts about 12 minutes (4K video recording) and the built-in memory is limited to 32 gigabytes, but for a quick run downhill or a trail, that’s plenty. (You can add a battery module to extend its run time to about 180 minutes.) Another downside is that only the lens portion of the camera is completely waterproof. this is a waterproof case you can buy to make the entire material waterproof to a depth of 196 feet (60 meters), but you lose the advantage of the quick-change magnetic clamp system. However, if your primary concern for an action camera is size and weight, this is the system to get. Read ours Guide to the Best Action Camera for more.

Why we like the DJI Mavic 3

DJI Mavic 3

DJI’s Mavic 3 is the oldest model in the company’s line of drones, but it’s still one of the best drones you can buy if the price is nothing to be concerned about. . (Even with this discountit’s still expensive.) The picture and video quality is amazing, thanks to the four-thirds 20-megapixel sensor, and its ability to move and track subjects at 45 mph means you won’t miss any photo.

There’s omnidirectional obstacle avoidance to keep you away from trees and other drone-damaging landscape features, and a flight time of 45 minutes. It’s expensive, but this is the lowest price we’ve ever tracked. Read ours The Best Drone Guide for more recommendations.
