In 2018, The first issue of the magazine A Profound Waste of Time has been published. Marrying honest video game essays with beautiful art, that was awesome, and did well enough for the next 5 years a second edition put together is also good. The current it’s time for issue number 3.
Some highlights of This latest issue includes:
– Journalist and author Simon Parkin go to Tokyo, Japan to talk to Fumito Ueda (Shadow of the Colossus, ico, Last Guardian), explores the themes and philosophies behind both his iconic games and the way he works.
– Grace Curtis explore the history of early web games, focusing on Nitromea British indie game studio that begins producing online browser games.
– Rodney Greenblat (PaRappa the Rapper) was interviewed by Kyle Bosman about his approach to both fine art and character design, as well as how he hopes his work inspires joy in others.
– Tim Schafer (Psychiatry, Grim Fandango) Talk to Ben Bertoli on how to manage your prospects and take care of your mind when creating and working on video games.
– Journalist and author Matt Leone record the early history of Street fighter and the advent of fighting game combo analysis in Japan.
While the features were (and appear to be in this case) great, one of the magazine’s big selling points was its production. BILLIONhis art jumps off the page, and for this matter especially the fancier edition of The Last Guardian– themed covers will all go out:
Issue 3 special edition has a different and special color scheme color thermal ink layer, allowing you to banish darkness and reveal Trico underneath just by touching the lid with your hand. Touch and responsiveness are a prominent concept in the games of Ueda and his team, so it is fitting to be referenced in the cover with this unique manufacturing process.
