The world’s first knee-fight championship was held in Florida; Fighters fight with cushions
Florida:
When we were kids, we used to do it often. As an adult, not so often. But that doesn’t stop sex from reaching adulthood. A pillow tournament was recently held in Florida, USA. And Pillow Fight Championship was crowned its first champion after the children’s game was turned into a fighting sport with participating professionals. The pay-per-view event saw 16 men and eight women, most of whom have mixed martial arts training, drop random knees on opponents instead of punching and kicking in the ring. No one was hurt. While it may sound rude, sport is anything other than that.
The pay-per-view participants seem as serious as those in any other combat sport for the title. The winning prize includes a title belt and $5,000 (approximately Rs 3.73).
Brazil’s Istela Nunes won the coveted title on the women’s side by defeating American Kendahl Voelker. In the men’s category, Hauley Tillman from the US beat compatriot Marcus Brimage.

The people behind the Pillow Fight Championship say they started with the idea of developing a combat sport that really appeals to an international family audience. It soon became pure entertainment and fun that kids could watch on TV. The championship offers all the thrills of a bloodless hand-to-hand combat and more action, sometimes even humour. Each round lasts 3, 2 minutes.
Steve Williams, CEO, said on PFC website that people who fight don’t like getting hurt, and many don’t want to see blood. They want healthy competition, but not violence.
The initial success of the championship probably paved the way for more such events to be held in the near future. Even the PFC may host more tournaments in the coming months. With so many people growing up in bed with their siblings, friends and family members, the sport is inherently easy to understand and has the potential to grow rapidly.
