On a rainy, windy, wet night on the Southeast coast This is the set brought a warm welcome into Folkestone’s Quarter with their imaginative series of light and mellow folk songs. More than anything Kate said, they were “really grateful” to be on stage performing and sharing songs from their last album – Off Off Off On. This Is The Kit’s sixth full-length studio album was released in late October 2020, and because of unforeseen obstacles, but apparently, the opportunity to stream songs from that album was limited. Thankfully, thanks in part to Melting Vinyl and Creative Folkestone promoters, Kent’s lucky folks got to enjoy nine of the eleven tracks that make up the final record, plus a handful of select additions choose carefully.

This Is The Kit kicks off the evening with subtle and soothing notes by Slider. Whitby-Coles’ clear and soft transposition provided the perfect percussion soundtrack to score the Stables’ catchy vocals. Two songs from TITK’s 2017 album, Moonshine Freeze, Bullet Proof And after that Toothless, increased the tempo a bit as Kate adjusted her vocals and drew the crowd.

After the song’s quartet opening, Kate took a moment to express her apparent sincere gratitude. “I’m really grateful that you’re all here, all at once, thank you, I’m so grateful” she said as she passed her guitar to a banjo and began performing a concert. of the most animated songs. of Ministry, This is what you did. Dressed in flip-flops and a black outfit, Kate adjusted the stretchy black-and-white belt here to ensure the banjo was snug against her body before starting the next section.

Kate’s banjo strum, coupled with more immediate and intense vocals, was paired with Neil Smith’s deft guitar work as TITK played a solid album highlight. Her stables and band are seamlessly separated from the This is what you did to the title track from Off Off Off On when both she, Leyden, and Smith moved from song to song.

In the middle of the night, watching This Is The Kit perform a cleverly remastered, more energetic version of the title track from their 2017 album, Moonshine freezes. As the band hits the first notes and then Kate begins singing the spinning chorus – “Cycle of three, triangles are tough”, the accompanying animation unfolds behind her to reveal possible is the most carefully put together film in the series. Kate said – “you are all very lucky” as there are no other shows this month featuring the amazing artist Pete McPartlan (Excavation / Seven layers of sediment / Ship) does all of his gorgeous animations, this is the only gig where this is happening, so thanks Pete, good luck, this is cruel. ”

Dedicated barn Being a magician to all the magicians in the audience, “but especially the female magicians”, before delivering a compelling display of that subtlety in her softest voice. The opening song comes Off Off Off OnFind out, speeded up a little bit before Start over saw Kate and Rozi harmonize while Neil Smith put on another outstanding guitar performance to match Whitby-Coles’ faultless percussion behind him.

As evening stretched towards it, concluding that the profoundly observed brilliance of Solid fat – “they think they know they don’t know…we think we see we don’t see”, by the energy of Hotter than colder. However, both of these songs highlight the adjustments This Is The Kit has made to tailor the songs for live performances. There is no keyboard on Solid fat and sadly no upper horn Hotter than colder which, if I’m picky, makes them even better than they are.

This Is The Kit ended the main series with a great success Go on After Kate thanked, literally, everyone – “thank you all for coming, it really was the best way to spend the evening”, she said before making sure she was at Which location! “This is really stupid, I’ve been here all day,” she said, “and I don’t know if it’s called The Quarterhouse or Creative Folkestone.” The crowd helped answer her questions before she also thanked her band and her supportive actions and said – “I suggest we just slow down a bit, it’s because I’m exhaling’, because I’m so unfit, bulging out.”

After leaving the stage to warm applause, it wasn’t long before the Stables and her band returned to perform the last two tracks of the night as a critically acclaimed encore. Earthquake once again showcase the musical abilities of all four members of This Is The Kit before they deliver a delicate and enchanting performance. Bashed Out.

This Is The Kit is clearly happy to be back on stage performing live in front of a large crowd. It’s a feeling of reciprocity as The Quarterhouse’s audience immerses themselves in every last note of an incredibly intimate yet enveloping performance. You couldn’t ask someone more likeable than Kate Stables to lead a band through a setlist that captivates them at their best. (The only question left is…if you were there, would you go swimming with Kate at Sunny Sands Beach the next morning?)
