Two drivers hospitalized in Formula 2 crash at Saudi Arabian Grand Prix
JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia – Formula 2 drivers Theo Pourchaire and Enzo Fittipaldi were both taken to hospital following an accident during a race in support of the Saudi Grand Prix.
Theo Pourchaire appeared to stall his car from third place on the grid and was hit by Enzo Fittipaldi, grandson of two-time Formula One champion Emerson, who started in 18th place.
Both drivers were immediately taken care of by paramedics and were alert when they were removed from their vehicles. They were then transported by ambulance and helicopter to King Fahad Armed Forces Hospital in Jeddah.
The race, which was the third Formula 2 race of the weekend, had a red flag on the opening lap due to a collision.
It started again 30 minutes later but ran only five laps before another accident involving Olli Caldwell and Guilherme Samaia resulted in a second red flag bringing the race to an early end.
F2 Championship leader Oscar Piastri won the short event, extending his championship lead to 51.5 points with 65 remaining to win the final round in Abu Dhaka.
