Update: The next dark picture game is a sci-fi thriller called Directive 8020
Update, November 17, 2022:
Earlier this year, Supermassive Games filed multiple trademarks for new games that many anticipate are part of its Dark Pictures anthology series. One of those games is Directive 8020 and now, with the latest anthology game, The Devil In Me, due out tomorrow, it has been confirmed that Directive 8020 is coming next. This will be the premiere of Season 2 of The Dark Pictures series.
This news comes by Game trailerwho discovered the teaser trailer for Directive 8020 as part of the release of The Devil In Me, traditionally with the latest game revealing the next game, as reported by destroy.
Watch the teaser trailer for The Dark Pictures: The 8020 Directive for yourself below:
As you can see, Directive 8020 will be the series’ first foray into sci-fi horror, and it looks like this game is headed alien territory. destroy note that Directive 8020 is a directive actually issued by NASA to “control biological contamination of incoming and outgoing planetary spacecraft.” Seems like that gives us a pretty good idea of what we’re dealing with in this game. However, only time will tell for sure. There is no release date for Directive 8020, and since this is the start of Part 2, the waiting time may be longer than the time between Part 1 releases.
If you’re looking for a horror fix in the meantime, the final installment of The Dark Pictures Season 1, The Devil In Melaunching tomorrow on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Original story, February 1, 2022:
Supermassive Games started its anthology horror series, The Dark Pictures, in 2019 with Man of Medan, and since then, it’s released a new entry each year. Little Hope was released in 2020, and last year the studio released House of Ashes.
The Devil In Me The next game will take place, and that game will serve as the finale of the first season of The Dark Pictures. The fifth game in the series, Switchback, was half-revealed through Supermassive Games’ trademark filing. Now, the next five games have been revealed in a similar fashion.
Interestingly, Supermassive Games has long referred to The Dark Pictures as an eight-game series. These five new franchises bring the total to 10. Perhaps Season 2 is a sixth of the game, or perhaps, a third is in the works. Only Supermassive Games knows. For now, we have a pretty good idea of what the next five games after Switchback will look like, thanks to a filing a new trademark discovered by Twitter users marzipanas reported by gemstone:
- The Dark Pictures: Directive 8020
- Dark Paintings: The Craven Man
- Dark Paintings: Intervention
- Dark Paintings: Winterfold
- Shadow Pictures: O God of Death
And here’s a slideshow with images of each trademarked logo:
For most of these, it’s hard to piece together the exact content of the game, which makes sense considering all we know are possible names. However, some are easier than others. For example, Directive 8020 seems to hint at a futuristic sci-fi horror game. Craven Man could be similar to The Wicker Man, or maybe even Jeepers Creepers.
It may take a while before we find out what each one is, so in the meantime, check out our thoughts on the series so far. Game informant Medan’s man reviews, Reviews on Little Hopeand Reviews on House of Ashes.
