Volvo adds Android Automotive to all models

Volvo announced that all of its models will be available with over-the-air (OTA) software update capabilities for the 2023 model year.

The latest Volvo models to receive this function are XC90 large SUVs, S60 sedan, and V60 Cross Country wagon. They also get the Android Automotive infotainment operating system.

A Volvo Car Australia spokesperson confirmed these updated models will arrive in Australia in June 2022 as part of the 2023 model year update.

The spokesperson also confirmed all orders for Volvos from today will be for the 2023 model year.

This means that all models of the company, including electric Rechargeable XC40 and XC60Android Automotive is now available and the ability to complete OS updates over-the-air.

Countries that currently support Volvo OTA updates include Australia, Hong Kong, India, South Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan, and Thailand.

Henrik Green, Volvo Product Manager, said: “By making it possible for all Volvo models to receive online updates, we are making important progress towards our ambitions to make vehicles. Better customers every day.

“This is an important milestone: we are now updating cars for all models in the majority of our markets, bringing the benefit of continuous remote updates to a growing number of customers every day. increasing.”

Volvo has also announced its latest, eighth complete car update that will reach “more than 190,000 Volvo vehicles globally”.

The update includes new categories of apps on the Google Play Store, including navigation, charging, and parking. Video streaming is expected to be added by the end of 2022.

It also brings improvements, from better energy management to improved climate timers and updates to car and mobile app functionality.

For electric models, improvements to power management help maintain optimal battery temperatures on cold and hot days, increasing driving range. There is also a function to preheat the battery so it can charge faster.

The Volvo Car companion app also now receives more frequent updates from cars about the charge percentage during a charging session.

The transition to Android Automotive comes as Volvo works on previously announced plans fully electric by 2030 and only sell cars online.

It is also expected to derive at least half of its sales from electric vehicles by 2025.

The company’s first all-electric model, the XC40 Recharge SUV, first becomes available locally in mid-2021 and is now available in both single and dual electric propulsion systems.

This is the first Volvo to use the new Android Automotive operating system.

The related C40 Recharge coupe SUV will arrive on Australian soil in the third quarter of 2022 and will also be available in both single and dual electric propulsion systems.

Both of these vehicles are built on top of the CMA platform, which also underpins the Polestar 2 power back up.

Volvo is also aiming revealed a large SUV replacement XC90, which is expected to be called Embla, will run entirely on electricity. The styling of this car has been previewed by 2021 Concept Recharge.
