Voting is taking place at 644 booths belonging to 13 civil authorities in Tripura (Representative)

Citizenship elections in Tripura begin at 7 a.m. today as Communist Party of India (Marxist), or CPI(M) and Trinamool Congress declare that workers of the ruling BJP are riding machines and threaten their candidates.
The CPI(M) and Trinamool Congress also allege that not all voters are allowed into the polling place.
Masked and helmeted gangs went door-to-door to warn voters to stay home, opposition parties allege.
“Information has been poured from … some wards of Agartala City Council that a large number of bad guys are entering those areas on the orders of the ruling BJP and causing serious terrorist consequences opposition supporters, with the threat not to move to the polls on November 25,” CPI(M) said in a statement.
Voting is taking place at 644 booths of 13 civil authorities in Tripura – the most watched fight is the Agartala Municipal Corporation. During its last term, the CPI (M) was in the control of the citizenry. The BJP is making a resolute attempt to win it through unfair means, the opposition alleges.
There are a total of 20 civic bodies where the elections take place. Of the seven of them, the BJP won without being applied.
The Trinamool Congress, an organization recently involved in Tripura politics, fielded candidates in all 51 wards of the civic body. The CPI (M) omitted a few candidates.
Elections are held almost exclusively under the supervision of the Supreme Court. Following an appeal order from the Trinamool Parliament last week, the Supreme Court asked the Tripura government to ensure the opposition is allowed to operate in the political space.
Trinamool MP Sushmita Dev returned to the Supreme Court earlier this week, accusing the Tripura government of disregarding the court for violating its order and asking for the election to be postponed.
The Supreme Court is expected to issue an order on the appeal today.
