Washington defender Ryan Fitzpatrick will have arthroscopic surgery at the end of the season
ASHBURN, Va. – Washington football team midfielder Ryan Fitzpatrick will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right hip, ending any hopes he or the brand had for his return this season.
Fitzpatrick’s return was considered a big step before that, but with five games remaining, the procedure officially becomes. He suffered a slight dip in the second quarter of last season’s opening loss Los Angeles charger and was placed on the injured reserve.
Fitzpatrick, who underwent an MRI in early November, is still dealing with swelling and pain in his hip and groin area in recent weeks, leaving him unable to walk.
Washington signed the 39-year-old one-year-old for $10 million in March, hoping the veteran’s understanding and steady play of the previous few years will help. Fitzpatrick, who has played nine franchise series, had hoped to lead a team to the knockout stages for the first time as a starter.
In 17 seasons, the former untrained free agent from Harvard made 147 appearances, churning out 223 touchdown passes and 169 interceptions.
His backup, Taylor Heinicke, helped Washington (6-6) win four straight games to send them into the knockout stages. Heinicke is 5th in Total QBR in the last 4 games. During the season, he threw for 2,809 yards, with 18 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
