The 42-year-old actor, who played Jamie Fraser in all six seasons of historical film Starz Outlandersaid the show’s creative team “betrayed his trust” during the show’s first season.
In his new memoir Waypoints: My Scottish JourneyHeughan mentions a particularly brutal scene between his character and Black Jack Randall (Tobias Menzies) in the season one finale, in which Jamie is sexually assaulted by Black Jack. Heughan said he didn’t think his character needed to be naked for the scene.
“This was not a moment where I felt that being naked would add to the horror of what Jamie had to go through in that castle dungeon as a form of punishment, submission, and humiliation,” Heughan wrote. , based on Insiders. “I took a step back, arguing that nudity conjured up a horrible experience for my character, and it sparked quite a heated argument.”
