Wizkid’s “Essence” hits #1 on the Adult R&B Streaming Chart | News
Wizkid“Essence” feature of Tems reached another level of success in the adult R&B market when his hit single topped Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart.
Based on Billboards, “Essence” was Wizkid’s first adult No.1 in its third appearance on the chart. He previously registered on the charts with a song on Drake’s “One Dance” with Kyla and Beyonce and SAINt Jhn’s “Brown Skin Girl,” featuring Blue Ivy Carter.
Immediately following Nigerian artists’ second album Made in Lagos, “Essence” proved its popularity on the charts for the first time, spending four weeks at No.1 on the Mainstream R&B chart. / Hip-Hop Airplay in September. The single was originally released in April with music video pairing has now reached 37 million views on YouTube.
“That song has become a symbol of being back outside,” he said in an interview with Billboards. “Then an internet narrative started about the song being the song of the summer – and we took that energy and ran with it.”
He added, “We’ve just come out of the craziest pandemic… Afrobeats just spreads the love around the room as you play it.”
