Xbox announces Amplify project, a plan to support black youth in the gaming industry

Xbox has officially launched Project Amplify, a new video series “that celebrates Black voices in Xbox to inspire, educate, and motivate youth across the United States towards a career in games industry through realistic storytelling from Black leaders and employees across the Xbox Ecosystem.”

Along A teaser, The first details of Project Amplify have been shared on Xbox cord by Black Community at Xbox Co-Leads Q Muhaimin and James Lewis, and they began by discussing the results of a recent survey from historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) ) Connect found that, out of 200 respondents, 95% of college students and alumni from HBCUs in the United States were interested in having a career in the games industry.

34% said they wanted the Program Manager role, 24% wanted the Engineering role, and 18% wanted the Game Development role. These numbers tell a story of Black students wanting to get into the gaming industry, but the reality paints a different picture when “only 2% of professionals in the video game industry are people.” Black compared to 13% of the US population.”

Project Amplify wants to change this and will feature 14 Black employees from across Xbox as they “each share advice, insights into their current roles, and highlights of their time in the industry.” gaming industry.” Hopefully Project Amplify will educate black youth and beyond about the many roles that make up the game industry and show them that they maybe Be a part of it.

Q Muhaimin said, “When I was growing up, I didn’t have much vision of my career. even as a freshman majoring in Computer Science, I still have a very shallow knowledge of the opportunities the technology industry offers me.

“Throughout my college and internship, I’ve learned more about how big the world is – how many companies, careers and pathways exist for you to find or create a job you love. I want more people to know that they have options, nothing is impossible or out of reach, and encourage those people to start pursuing their passions early on.”

“In my early years, I was more focused on what not to do than on what I could do,” says James Lewis.
“It wasn’t until my adult years that I learned how to leverage my passion for games into a career. Now, I’m incredibly grateful to be celebrating more than 10 years in my dream career and I hope Project Amplify inspires people to dream and act towards their own goals. As my coaches and mentors often say, ‘play to win instead of play to not lose.’ “

To celebrate this new initiative, Xbox has partnered with Rebel Summit 2022 x AT&T to host an event on September 24 and 25 that will reach students through the console, facility, and console. connections, etc.
