The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was the first major Nintendo release to be affected by the $10 price increase. However, the increase doesn’t seem to affect all of Nintendo’s upcoming games. When asked if $69.99 would become the standard price for first-party Nintendo games, a Nintendo spokesperson told Polygon via email, “No. We determine the suggested retail price for any Nintendo product on a case-by-case basis.”

Nintendo’s increased prices for first-party games are in line with other publishers’ current-generation prices. Microsoft raises prices of first-party games from $59.99 to $69.99 by 2023. Other publishers, including Sony Interactive Entertainment, Ubisoft, and Take-Two Interactive, sold new games like God of War Ragnarok, Assassin’s Creed Illusionand the corresponding NBA 2K series at $69.99.
