“At the end of the year we will launch the Q6 E-tron, and then a few months later the A6 E-tron,” said Audi design chief Marc Lichte.
“The A6 E-tron was born exactly three years after we launched the E-tron GT and on the A6 E-tron – as you can see on the concept car, very, very, very, very, very close to the car. production – you can see that we are going to be more polished and simple.”
The Audi concepts are not all fancy flights, Mr Lichte also told the UK publication that Activesphere Concept 2023 can preview an allroad spinoff of A7 launched around 2027 and confirmed next generation A8 – due in 2024 – will be like Grandsphere Concept 2021.
The A6 e-tron will be offered with a choice of single-engine rear-wheel drive and dual-motor four-wheel drive.
The concept sedan uses a 100kWh lithium-ion battery with a claimed range of 700km under the more stringent WLTP standards, 800V technology and 270kW charging capacity.
The Avant concept also uses a 100kWh battery, along with a dual-motor AWD powertrain that produces 350kW of power and 800Nm of torque.
Audi says the production A6 e-tron can go from 0 to 100 km/h in under 7 seconds in the base model and “under” 4 seconds in the most powerful variants.
The company has also hinted at an RS6 e-tron flagship. Using the Macan EV as a guide, this can produce up to 450 kW of power and 1000 Nm of torque.

MG has the MG 5 in Europe, based on the Roewe ei5, but it is a small wagon intended for the mass market, while at the other end of the spectrum there is Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo and Cross Turismo.
A more direct rival that will emerge is the BMW i5 Touring, which is based on the next-generation 5 Series and is expected to be launched in 2023 or 2024.
Whether the i5 Touring will arrive here, however, remains unclear. Audi Australia remains committed to wagons, offering long-top versions of the A4 and A6, including models with the hot RS badge.
However, BMW ended the private sale of the 5 Series Touring.
