First job in Thoroughbreds?
Mucking out at Guirys 1 in Coolmore Ireland the year I graduated from University. I think there are 20 ponies in the barn – 18 ponies from Sadler’s Wells and two ponies from Danehill.
The biggest influence on your career?
Finally it was my father who introduced both my brother William and I to racing. He loves his National Hunt and we had many fun afternoons in Huntingdon and Towcester. Growing up later, both Richard Henry and Simon Mockridge played important roles in my experience and growth.
All-time favorite racehorse, and why?
Desert orchid. I was 10 years old when he won the Gold Cup and he was a good jumping gray horse – all that me and my gray horse aspired to at the time.
Who will be the first season male champion in 2023?
Too hot.
The greatest race in the world?
Battle of Derby.
If you could be someone else in the industry for one day, who would it be, and why?
MV Magnier. MV works so hard and I can imagine his day job varied from picking young stocks to managing the path of future champions. I love that variety.
Emerging talent in the industry (people)?
He’s already on the rise, but only 24 years old, I would say Tom Marquand. I’m sure Tom will be the jockey champion in the near future.
The horse name TDN is supposed to be Rising Star, isn’t it?
Checkandchallenge – I am very hopeful he will give my brother William his first Group 1 winner in 2023.
The horse under the radar?
Again, I’m not sure to what extent they are, but I think both Saxon Warrior and Cracksman is set for the big years ahead.
Friday night treatment?
China go away.
Guilty pleasure outside of the race?
Watch Rugby League.
The race I wish I had been there…
Win at Group 1 Prix Morny of The Wow Signal. I think I’m checking out the hatchlings for the Goffs UK Premier sale. Any winner celebrating with John and Sean Quinn is happy, so I really missed his Group 1 win.
