1,500 employees, 17% of workforce

Twilio on Monday announced plans to cut about 17% of its workforce, or about 1,500 jobs, based on 8,992 employees reported as of September 30, 2022, in a report. the company filed an application with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Twilio announces layoffs in a blog post shared on the company’s website.
The announcement comes after the cloud communications software maker has lay off about 11% of the workforce as part of a restructuring plan in September.
In an email to employees, CEO Jeff Lawson said the additional cuts were driven by the need to reorganize Twilio for success.
“These changes hurt,” Lawson wrote. “The coming weeks will be about processing all these changes and working together to adapt to our new structure.”
Lawson said Twilio is creating two business units to help the company spend less and operate more efficiently. One unit, Twilio Data & Applications, will be led by Elena Donio and the second, Twilio Communications, will be led by Khozema Shipchandler. Lawson said that when executives were looking at the two business units, it became clear that the company had become “too big,” especially in the media sector.
Lawson said it was clear Twilio needed to make “significant structural changes” to better execute its strategy.
“It is painful to say goodbye to so many talented people – but it is essential to get our two businesses into the right shape for success,” he said.
Twilio is one of more than a dozen tech companies that have announced layoffs in recent months. Last week, Dell, Launch And ebay significant disclosure cut their workforce. In January, Google reveal more layoff plans 12,000 workers, Microsoft announced the reduction plan 10,000 employees And Sales force said it was planned lay off 7,000 workers.
