I recall my pre-Covid trip and put together a list of casual observations about Japan/Tokyo that I think are worth mentioning.
first.
There were trucks going around playing loud music, probably for advertising purposes.

There are certain restaurants where you can order from a vending machine!

You can buy sandwiches with pre-cut crusts!
4.
You usually get a small basket in the restaurant to store your things while eating.
5.
The traffic cones we saw were more interesting than we were.
6.
Some places have special slippers to wear in the toilet for hygiene reasons. I say everyone does the same at home!

People don’t just take theirs dog walking!
8.
Most stores in Tokyo will clip your shopping bags together with duct tape as proof of purchase.

People ride bicycles on the sidewalk as well as the roadway.

Convenience stores have a really wild range of drinks, including this luminescent green melon soda, which I’ve become addicted to.

The whole country is obsessed with cute things like kittens, puppies, rabbits, mice.

The train seat can be rotated in the direction of travel for your comfort.

There are these flat wooden flip-flops called “geta” (similar to clogs), which the Japanese sometimes wear.

You can’t smoke anywhere – there are designated cages on the street for smokers.

95% of toilets ~ super ~ fancy, with lots of buttons to enhance your toilet experience!

There are “maid cafes” where young women dress up as maids and serve you food and drinks.

And finally, as a train pulls into the metro station, a lovely little jingle comes from the tannoy.

Bonus: I MISSED this point about masks, which I wrote about back in 2019… And of course, everyone wears masks for various reasons such as wanting to avoid air pollution, allergens. reactions or germs, or even want to cover up a spot or blur!
