Next generation BMW M2 has been given more camouflage before the reveal is expected at the end of 2022.
Based on the second generation, new 2 Lines coupes, BMW M2 immediately differentiates itself from the regular model with bulging wheel arches and stronger front and rear front end.
In standard outfit, it is said to have more power than the current M2 Competition, producing 302kW and 550Nm from a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline six.
The debut of the regular M2, last seen in 2018, puts out 272kW and 465Nm.
The new M2 Competition is rumored to see its output increase to 335kW or even 365kW, with a six-speed manual transmission expected to continue.
This level of power in the Competition makes M3 and M4 in the crosses of M2. Both put out 353kW and 550Nm in base, hand-wound, with Competition models pumping out 375kW.
Unlike the M240i xDrive which will top the local 2 Series range, the M2 is expected to remain rear-wheel drive.
From the front, the grille shown on this M2 prototype has less camouflage. Its slimmer, rectangular dual-grid is an integral design cue from BMW and we can see the M2 has been removed from the polarized kidney grille found on the M3 and M4.
Below the grille is a wide air intake, with side air intakes. All of these were previously camouflaged on earlier prototypes.
The headlights are still partially obscured by the camouflage, but they look like production-ready units.
Behind the wheel of this prototype are cross-drilled brake rotors and blue-painted brake calipers while at the rear, there’s a set of quad exhaust pipes with a concealed rear diffuser, as well as a rear spoiler. discreetly behind.
The taillights on this M2 prototype are still camouflaged, and it’s unclear if this is a mock prototype or a production-ready unit.

The prototype of the M2 Competition was previously tracked and can be distinguished by their carbon bucket seats, as well as different wheel designs and slightly larger exhaust outlets.
The regular 2022 BMW 2 Series coupe was revealed in July 2021, and the first Australian models are said to have dropped in price in January 2022.
