Peugeot revealed its vibrancy 408 ‘coupe SUV’, a model that further blurs the distinction between a typical convertible and a crossover.
It brings the fight to the opponents of Stellantis Citroen C5 X and C4as Renault Arkana.
Peugeot Australia has confirmed the 408 will make its debut in Australia, although the automaker gave a brief pause on when that would come.

The other PHEV powertrain uses all the same components but produces a total system power of 165kW. This powertrain is now offered locally in Peugeot 508 PHEV.
All three powertrains are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission with the drive sent only to the front wheels.
Both PHEV powertrains can charge AC at a maximum rate of 3.7kW. This option can be enhanced 7.4KW.
Peugeot claims PHEV 408 models with a standard 3.7kW in-machine charger can charge from 0-100% in just under four hours using a 14A domestic plug.
With an optional 7.4kW internal charge, the 408 PHEV can be fully charged in one hour and 40 minutes using the 32A wall case.
Peugeot has confirmed an all-electric version of the 408 will be “coming out a few months later”.

On the safety front, the Peugeot 408 comes standard with the following safety features:
- Adaptive cruise control with stop and go
- Night vision
- Long-range blind spot monitoring
- Rear cross-traffic alert
Peugeot also says there are six cameras and nine radars scattered around the 408 ‘coupe SUV’.
The French carmaker says the 408 will first be built in Mulhouse, France for the European market and then in Chengdu, China for the Chinese market.
It should be noted that the Chinese market version of this ‘coupe SUV’ will be called the Peugeot 408X as there was already a sedan version of the previous generation 308 called the 408 on sale there.
