2022 Renault Austral to launch before March
Kadjar’s smooth, organic shapes are about to be replaced by sharper and more formal thoughts of Renault Austral.
Skip the oversized alloy wheels, skip the ultra-low roofline, and the trailer offers an accurate preview of the upcoming crossover.
Austral’s face is clearly inspired by Megane E-Techand features a vertical front bumper with C-shaped headlights linked together by a chrome bar.
Unlike the all-electric Megane E-Tech, the Austral will be sold exclusively with an electrified petrol engine, and as such feature upper and lower grilles.
Renault has confirmed the Austral will be available with a 1.2-litre engine paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system and a 1.3-litre engine with a 12V mild-hybrid setup.
This isn’t the first trailer Renault has released for its new crossover. At the beginning of the year, the company released photos of the car in a fully camouflaged state, showing off its upright and mature stance.
Since then, the automaker has released sketches of the car’s interior with a large portrait infotainment touchscreen, digital instrument display and flat-bottom two-spoke steering wheel.
While the door tag and dashboard design in the sketch will make it to production, the sturdy raised seats are unlikely to make the transition.
Austral will be mid-size Captur and Koleosand will replace Kadjar within the company’s European scope. Despite its name, Austral is yet to be confirmed for sale in Australia.
If the Austral is only made in Europe and China, the price and availability of the right drive could mean it won’t be offered Down Under.
Locally, the Kadjar was discontinued in February 2021 after just one year on sale. It has been replaced by Arkana coupe crossover, produced in Korea by Renault Samsung.
