BMW car updated its biggest, ugliest SUV. The 2023 X7 there’s a new look up front, more tech inside and more power under the bonnet.
It will be here in Q4 2022, with both the X7 M60i and xDrive40d locked. Pricing and specifications will be revealed later in the year.
There are new engines and new infotainment technology for the interior, but the change at the top is a new look.
The spy shots and renderings are accurate; X7 introduces a new split headlamp design with LED daytime running lights at the top and LED projector lamps located below.
Glow logo grille with magnetic backlight X6 SUV is now standard on the flagship X7 M60i xDrive and is available elsewhere in the range.
At the rear, the taillights have adopted a more high-contrast look across the range and there are detailed changes in the bumpers at both ends.
Linking the rear lights is an LED bar, as is becoming common in the industry.
There’s a bigger difference between the regular X7 and the M60i, with glossy black trim and a stronger image.
Inside, the X7 has gotten the latest OS8.0 infotainment system that debuted in i4 and iX Electric Car. It combines a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch central touchscreen, with Hello BMW voice, center dial and touch input.
Vegan interior trim is standard and Merino full leather is optional depending on where you are in the world. The transmission tunnel has been tweaked with a new gear selector, and the dashboard is home to a new backlit trim option.
Power was heightened across the range. Today’s top-of-the-line M60i uses a 4.4-liter V8 derived from a full-on engine Contest X5 CODEalthough it has been adjusted for performance 390kW and 750Nm instead of 460kW.
While the engine itself is new, that output is unchanged from the M50i. It’s mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
New xDrive40d packages 259kW and up to 720Nm from the 3.0-litre inline-six turbo-diesel, up 64kW and 100Nm on the included xDrive30d.
Finally, the X7 xDrive40i that won’t be Down Under has a 3.0-litre inline-six petrol engine that makes 280kW and up to 540Nm thanks to a 48V mild hybrid system.
The current range includes the xDrive30d and the M50i.
