2023 Honda Civic Type R revealed in Australia in early 2023
The hottest member of the new 11th-generation Civic, the Type R, has been revealed ahead of its local launch in early 2023.

However, the company has confirmed that the hot hatch will retain the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder VTEC engine, although it has been revised for more power and better responsiveness.
The first model produces 228kW of power and 400Nm of torque.
Type R continues to use a six-speed manual transmission with a rev-matching feature, with no automatic option.
Honda said it aims for the Civic Type R to become the fastest front-wheel drive, front-wheel drive vehicle, providing both an “addictive” driving experience and ensuring stability at high speeds.
Its revelation comes shortly after the last Type R development car set a new record for a front-wheel drive car at Suzuka, home of Formula One Japan.
While the Type R, like the standard Civic on which it is based, has a cleaner styling than its predecessor, there are still odd details to be expected in the Type R such as the huge rear wing and wheels. multi-spoke black painted alloy.
There are wider fenders and more aggressive bumper treatments at the front and rear than the standard Civic, and there’s also a slim air intake on the bonnet.
Honda says it also has a wider rear door exclusive to the Type R.
At the rear, there’s a cleaner rear bumper design compared to the previous Type R, albeit with a powerful diffuser and three centrally mounted exhaust outlets.
Honda has revealed the hot Civic with Type R branding in Championship White, but it will be available in other colors including Rallye Red, Boost Blue, Crystal Black Pearl and the new Sonic Gray Pearl.
The cabin is decorated in red, with red carpet and gloss matching the seats’ suede upholstery.
The front seats are sturdy buckets with a “three-dimensional polyhedron”, designed to firmly support the occupants on the track.

There’s a smooth digital instrument cluster and an exclusive +R mode display that puts information such as rpm, revs indicator and gear position in clear view of the driver.
Honda’s LogR data logging system provides real-time information about vehicle movement.
The new R-type will line up again with Hyundai i30 FEMALE, Volkswagen Golf CHEAPand Renault Megane RS among others, as well as more expensive options like Audi RS3 and Mercedes-AMG A45 WILL.
The old Type R sells for $54,990 plus on-road costs, but with today’s base Civic priced at $47,300, we’d expect the new model to be more expensive.
