Mercedes-AMG was photographed testing the upcoming plug-in hybrid flagship of GLC SUV range.
The GLC63 the coupe is expected to share a plug-in hybrid powertrain with C63 S sedan.
The new C63 S combines a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 350kW and 545Nm. The engine has an electrically controlled turbocharger to reduce lag and a nine-speed multi-clutch transmission.
The rear axle is home to a 150kW electric motor, which is hooked up to a 6.1kWh battery pack with a range of 13km for electric vehicles only.
Combined, they produce 500kW and 1020Nm, and enable fully variable all-wheel drive with Drift Mode.
The 100km/h sprint takes 3.4 seconds and you’ll hit 280 km/h.
In addition to the PHEV powertrain, the new GLC is expected to look more powerful than its predecessor. The wheels fitted to this test car are very similar to those on the C63, and the ducktail spoiler at the base of the sloping tailgate is larger than on the current car.
Up front, it doesn’t mess too much with its predecessor’s formula. There’s a Panamericana-style grille with prominent longitudinal ribs, a bulging bumper with wide air intakes, and a more prominent splitter than the standard GLC.
Traditional AMG quad exhaust tips are also present and true.
While AMG variants of the GLC have not been revealed, the usual range is already there. The car will arrive in Australia in the second quarter of 2023, with power from a single engine option.

Regular GLC wagon -
The petrol GLC 300 4Matic will be the only locally offered GLC at launch, packaged 2.0 liter turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine with 190kW power and 400Nm of torque. It’s all-wheel drive and accelerates to 100km/h in 6.2 seconds.
The 48V mild hybrid system features a starter generator that produces 17kW and 200Nm, is designed for smoother start/stop and provides some extra power during acceleration.
A less powerful GLC 200 is already available overseas, along with a pair of diesel engines, none of which will be available domestically at launch.
