The Mercedes-Benz EQA SUVs are currently one of the best-selling electric vehicles (EVs) in Australia, and the German carmaker is now preparing to deliver an update to the range.
Photographers captured this upgrade Mercedes-Benz EQA prototype testing before a potential launch in 2023.
This follows the same photographer taking a prototype of related GLA in updated form a few days ago.
There is only a small amount of camouflage on the grille of the spy EQA prototype, indicating that the upgrade will include only minor changes.
The grille on the current EQA is mostly a glossy black hexagonal plate divided into two horizontal lines and a dinner plate-sized Mercedes-Benz badge.
A new set of alloy wheel designs may be included in the update. The EQA is available now with a choice of 19- and 20-inch alloy wheels.
We have yet to see the interior in the updated EQA, so it remains to be seen if there will be any changes to the infotainment system.
Currently, EQA has a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system running MBUX operating system.
It is expected that this dual 10.25-inch display will be retained in the updated model but run a newer version of MBUX.
It is not clear if Mercedes-Benz will update the powertrain outputs for this facelifted model.
The Mercedes-Benz EQA 250on sale locally by the end of 2021, powered by front mounted single electric motor manufacturing 140kW power and 375Nm of torque.
It is mated with a 66.5kWh . lithium-ion battery pack with a confirmed range of 480km according to the local ADR test cycle.
The Mercedes-Benz EQA 350 4MaticIt’s a due to early”provided by dual electric motor setup with 215kW and 520Nm.
It is also mated with a 66.5kWh . lithium-ion battery pack with a confirmed range of up to 432km.
A spokesperson for Mercedes-Benz Australia recently said the company doesn’t have an exact date for the EQA 350 4Matic’s sales launch, although more details are expected soon.
EQA 350 is about six months behind schedule, behind Mercedes-Benz was originally scheduled to be introduced in late 2021. High global demand, ongoing supply and ingredient issues have certainly contributed to this delay.
EQA and related GLA based on the MFA2 platform that also serves as the foundation for A class, CLA, B-Class, GLBand EQB.
Mercedes-Benz launches new compact car model MMA platform in 2024 will replace MFA2 and launch the new Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS).
This could be the last Mercedes-Benz platform to be introduced with an internal combustion engine option, as from 2025 onwards the company has said all new platforms will be electric only.
Mercedes-Benz has previously announced it will fully electric by 2030, wherever market conditions permit.
As of May 2022, Mercedes-Benz has sold a total of 415 EQA models. It was sold out by Tesla Model 3 (4481 sales), but the best is Polestar 2 (361 sales), Kia EV6 (Sales 233), and Hyundai Ioniq 5 (Sales 219).
EQA will also compete with Tesla Model Y once it goes on sale locally, as well as Rechargeable Volvo XC40 and come BMW iX1.
