Volkswagen confirmed its upcoming mid-size electric sedan will be revealed in 2023.
During the Volkswagen AG 2022 annual media conference, Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess revealed a very blurry image of what he calls the Aero B, suggesting the new model will be an electric alternative to Passat.
It remains unclear whether the production version of the electric sedan will be called the Aero B or if the German automaker will name it the ID. Instead, Aero.
The teaser image of the Aero B shows only the front and part of its side panels.
Like the whole Volkswagen ID. range, there’s a light bar that connects the headlights plus illuminated VW badging, while there are some seriously large cuts in the front bumper.
We’re yet to see a full picture of the bodywork but the teased electric sedan appears to have sleek styling with a low roofline.
The Aero B will likely be offered in single- and dual-motor rear-wheel-drive variants, and a sporty GTX model is also likely.

Volkswagen Aero B was first launched at the end of 2020 by I. Vizzion concept, and in the form of a wagon as an ID. Vizzion Space.
We have also previously reported on spy prototype of the upcoming electric sedan during testing, Volkswagen used camouflage stickers to disguise it as a Passat for the Chinese market.
However, the Aero B’s identity was betrayed by the flat door handles and short front and rear overhangs.
The Aero B will be sold alongside the Passat, which is said to only become the wagon in its next generation and will sit underneath Volkswagen’s upcoming all-electric flagship currently known as the Trinity Project.

Volkswagen recently announced that it will construction of a new €2 billion (AU$3.05 billion) manufacturing plant near the existing Wolfsburg plant that would produce the Trinity.
Construction is expected to begin in spring 2023 (March to June 2023), with Trinity production commencing in 2026.
Trinity is set to be the first vehicle built Volkswagen Group Scalable System Platform (SSP) and will offer an electric range of over 700 km, “shorter charging times” and Level 4 autonomous driving.
Over the lifetime of the SSP architecture, Volkswagen is expecting to produce “more than 40 million vehicles” on this electric platform, which will inherit today’s MEB and PPE all-electric architectures along with with internal combustion MQB, MSB and MLB architectures.
