2024 details of Renault 5 EV powertrain
As the launch of the reborn classic styling-inspired Renault 5 EV draws closer, we’re starting to learn more about what components it will use.
Previewed as a concept going back to near 2021The revived 5 is expected to begin production in 2024 using a newly designed electric motor produced at Renault’s renovated Cléon plant in France.
Dubbed ‘ePT-100kW’, the wound-rotor synchronous motor – and is expected to use no rare earth materials – as its name suggests will produce 100kW of power.
This new electric motor is an evolution of the more powerful ‘ePT-160kW’ electric motor used in Renault Megane E-Tech Electric.
The upcoming Renault 5 EV itself will be assembled at the company’s Douai plant.
Renault has also confirmed that from 2027, the Cléon plant will produce a new 200kW electric motor, developed in collaboration with Valeo and Valeo Siemens eAutomotive.
If Renault does well its recent Renault R5 Turbo 3E conceptand offering an even more powerful Alpine-branded Renault 5 hatchback, this engine could be a contender.
Basically, we know the Renault 5 will use the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance’s CMF-BEV electric platform.
The CMF-BEV platform shares bits with the CMF-B platform as the basis for Renault Captur and Nissan Jukeand promises to cut the price of new electric vehicles by a third.
The exaggerated design of the production Renault 5 EV concept is inspired by the 1972 original with the hatchback’s shape, distinctive taillights and window lines.
A weird look Renault Clio Recent spying is said to be test mule of production 5. It has wider wheel grooves, tight wheel arches, as well as a charging port on the grille.
Renault has yet to confirm details on the battery sizes of the five electric hatchbacks and the range announced so far.
However, it is understood that the batteries will have nickel-manganese-cobalt chemistry (NMC) and the CMF-BEV platform will offer a range of up to 400km according to the WLTP test.
A new one Nissan Micra city electric car will also be based on the underpinnings of the Renault 5, as noted above, high performance Alpine version.
Both of these upcoming electric vehicles (EVs) have been teased, with the Nissan Micra looking funky and cute, and the Alpine Renault 5 EV featuring a large rear spoiler and front lights.
Renault’s retro revolution won’t end with the upcoming 5th edition leaked in patent image.
A concept version of the reborn Renault 4, which is been teased recentlywill brand presence title at this year’s Paris motor show, which begins in October.
Reports have suggested that the Renault 4 EV will enter production in 2025.
While the upcoming Renault 4 and 5 EVs are still a few years away, it is understood both are on the cards for Australia.
“Any new product announcement from the EV side, we are here to support,” said Renault Australia General Manager Glen Sealey told us in May of this year.
