Peugeot has locked in launch timing for its funky e-3008 electric SUV in Australia.
The mid-sized SUV – which is a similar size to a Hyundai Ioniq 5 or Tesla Model Y – will touch down in the second half of 2024, with pricing and specifications to be confirmed closer to launch.
When it touches down in Australia, the e-3008 will sit alongside the smaller e-2008 SUV and e-Partner van already on sale locally.
The e-Expert van and e-208 and e-308 hatchback are also due here this year.
Peugeot hasn’t officially confirmed which of the three powertrain options will be available in Australia, but the global product manager for the e-3008 confirmed to CarExpert only the entry-level battery with front-wheel drive is being offered globally until 2025 rolls around.
The entry-level model features a 73kWh battery pack good for a claimed 527km of range in either front- or all-wheel guise on the tougher WLTP test cycle, while the optional 98kWh long-range battery is good for a class-leading 700km claim.
The single-motor 73kWh model has 157kW of power, while the all-wheel drive packs 240kW. The 98kWh long-range battery is mated with a 170kW motor.
All models can charge at up to 160kW plugged into a DC public faster charger, and at up to 11kW using an AC wall box – or up to 22kW with the optional three-phase charger fitted.
You also get the ability to power appliances using the standard 3.0kW/16A vehicle-to-load function.
Under the skin, the e-3008 is the first vehicle to ride on the new SLTA Medium platform that’ll eventually underpin a range of Peugeot, Citroen, and Jeep cars.
Peugeot says the platform allowed it to free up 520 litres of boot space, the same as what you get in the current 3008 – despite the new car’s more aerodynamic rear windscreen. It did concede, however, there’s slightly less rear legroom in the new model to help hit that mark.
Along with electric power, the platform supports plug-in hybrid and petrol-powered variants.
Peugeot has confirmed it’ll offer PHEV and petrol versions of the 3008, but it hasn’t revealed what will power them – nor whether they’ll be offered in Australia.
The current 3008 is the best-selling Peugeot in Australia, with 584 deliveries for 2023 putting it ahead of the Partner van on the VFACTS sales charts.
