Volkswagen’s new electric off-roader brand, Scout Motorsteased its first model.
Shadow images, published on Scout’s new websiteshows the block styling of the previously unnamed model introduced in outline form.
Like the sketches, the teaser image shows the gentle slope of the leading edge of the UI, flowing into a straight, bluff shape.
Scout will provide both an SUV and a pickup truck.
Sketches reveal the Scout models will have a blocky silhouette, while the upturned waistline pays homage to the old International Harvester Scout.
In addition to launching its website, the new brand has also created an online message board. It is not only for users who want to stay up to date with the brand, but also for old Scout fans.
The first concept versions of the ute and SUV will be revealed in 2023, with production set to begin in 2026. It’s unlikely they’ll share anything with burn in Amarok.
The new all-terrain vehicles will not be improved versions of other Volkswagen Group products. VW says the company is being formed to “design, engineer and manufacture pickup and rugged vehicles” for the US market.
Instead of MEB platform used for vehicles like ID.3 and ID.4The R-SUV (as VW has named it) will be built on a “new engineering platform concept”.

Volkswagen isn’t the only company developing an all-electric all-terrain vehicle.
Rivian already has R1S SUV and R1T pickup, Jeep previewed upcoming scout mid-decade, and Mercedes-Benz has a Electric G-Class in the development phase.
In China, BYD is establishing a premium brand called Yangwang, with a boxy SUV spy test. Chery is also introducing Jetour T-1has similarities with Land Rover Defender.
Looking more broadly at electric pickup trucks, there will soon be a multitude of options in the North American market. Rivian R1T and Ford F-150 Lightning will be joined by Chevrolet Silverado EV, RAM 1500 BEV, GMC Sierra Electric Scooter and Tesla Cybertruck in the coming years.
Volkswagen acquired the rights to the Scout badge when it purchased heavy-duty truck manufacturer Navistar, founded in 1986 as the successor to International Harvester.
The Scout name was applied to an International Harvester Jeep rival from 1961 to 1980.
Made in the US state of Indiana, it’s available in a variety of hard-top and soft-top styles, and with a pickup option.
