$70 million Lotto Max winning ticket could soon be worthless
The $70 million Lotto Max jackpot is just weeks away from becoming the largest lottery jackpot in Canadian history without a claimant.
According to the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG), the jackpot from the June 28, 2022 drawing unclaimed and the winning ticket will expire on June 28, 2023 if no one comes forward.
OLG spokesman Tony Bitonti told CTV News Toronto on Tuesday: “We’ve seen people take months to claim their awards, but now we’re getting to the final stages. “This is relevant.”
The ticket was purchased at an authorized lottery retailer in Scarborough. Bitonti says OLG has a lot of information about the ticket, but it doesn’t know the winner and the store doesn’t have video surveillance.
“This is a big prize and if it goes unclaimed it would be the biggest prize in Candian lottery history. Someone bought a ticket for a chance to win and they won, so we wanted to give it to them. this amount,” said Bitonti.
Bitonti is asking OLG lottery players to check the places where they usually keep their tickets, such as in the pocket of clothes, personal accessories, glove compartment or sun visor, kitchen, bedroom or office drawer room.
Those who think they may have lost their winning ticket can also contact OLG to answer a series of security questions to determine if they might be a winner.
Winning numbers for Maximum lottery draw is 8, 19, 22, 41, 42, 46, 47 Bonus 1.
WHAT HAPPENS IF NO ONE GOES?
Winners have one year from the date of the draw to claim their prize.
If the holder of the $70 million ticket does not show up before the deadline, the unclaimed funds will be returned to the player through future bonus games or promotions.
While there are a number of reasons the winning ticket could not be redeemed, OLG has previously said that it is usually because it is lost or forgotten.
According to Bitonti, about one percent of winnings go unclaimed each year.
