Miami Hurricanes hires Clemson’s Dan Radakovich as athletic director

Radakovich has been Clemson’s athletic director since 2012, overseeing a massive expansion in the program’s budget while the team has played for the national title in football four times, winning two.
The Miami deal is expected to make Radakovich the highest-paid sports director in the nation.
Radakovich, 63, will replace Blake James, who Miami fired last month, two days after the Hurricanes’ team lost to Florida State.
With Radakovich, Storm is bringing another layer of alum back to Coral Gables. He earned a master’s degree in business administration from Miami in 1982.
Miami becomes the third ACC school to have Radakovich as athletic director. Before joining Clemson, he worked at Georgia Tech from 2006 to 2012.
Miami men’s basketball coach Jim Larranaga said earlier this month when it became clear that Radakovich was the Hurricanes’ top target for the job.
Larranaga added: “He’s a great businessman. He has a lot of experience.”
Radakovich’s career in sports management began in 1983 in Miami, so his hiring by the Hurricanes helped make his career more complete.
Radakovich, then 25, left an accounting firm to take a job with Miami’s legendary sports director, Sam Jankovich, as the Hurricanes’ director of sports finance. He arrived about two and a half months before the team won its first national championship.
His mission now is to help Miami get back to its top form.
