Ys IX: Monstrum Nox Gets Local Co-op and 16:10 Support on PC
Those out there looking for a reason to buy and play Ys IX: Monstrum Nox has a few new features to look forward to when you finally pull the trigger. Seriously. Play Ys VIII and IX!
A major update to the Steam version of the game is about to come with a local co-op feature. In the trailer above you can see the feature in action, allowing a second player to control someone as long as there are multiple playable characters in the scene. In the Steam post announcing the update, it talks about changes from the previous Ys co-op, saying, “the second player is largely equivalent to the main player in terms of abilities in the game. Ys IX, which includes the ability to move and fight, use Monstrum Gifts, explore and activate landmarks, enemies and events, open chests, pick up collectibles, and initiate dialogue. with menus and maps limited to players only.” It’s pretty impressive to make multiplayer a certain single-player experience.
Also joining the game is 16:10 support, which allows support for slightly narrower screens. One of those displays with that aspect ratio is the upcoming Steam Deck handheld, which the lucky developers had on hand to snap a picture of the game running on it.
At the top of the update are a number of fixes to fix some launch issues. You can see the full developer post right here.
