Woman, 4 children die after inhaling toxic fumes from kitchen in room in Shahdara of Delhi
New Delhi:
A 30-year-old woman and her 4 children died after allegedly inhaling toxic fumes from a ‘angithi‘(stoves) were kept in their room in the Seemapuri section of Shahdara on Wednesday, police said.
According to police, a PCR call was received around 1:30 p.m. regarding four to five people lying unconscious in a room on the fifth floor of a house in Old Seemapuri.
Upon arrival there, the woman and her three children were found dead while the fourth and youngest were taken to hospital but doctors declared them dead, a senior police officer said.
During the investigation, it was found that a Mohit Kalia (35 years old) with his wife Radha and four children – two daughters and two sons – lived in the rented house, he said.
The apartment belongs to Amarpal Singh (60 years old), a resident of Shalimar Garden, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) R Sathiyasundaram.
Preliminary investigation revealed they all died of suffocation due to the cooking stove inside the room due to extreme cold because the small room had no ventilation system, police said.
However, the true cause of death could only be known after an autopsy, they added.
