Netflix launches a new way to find shows with ‘Category Hub’ for TV viewers – TechCrunch
Today, Netflix announced that it is refresh its TV interface with a new feature called “Category Hub” in the menu of the TV app.
This hub can be found in the left menu on both kids and adult profiles and will showcase your personalized “top 3” categories. It will also include curated collections based on holidays like International Women’s Day, Earth Day, etc. Globally popular general categories will also be included – like action, comedy , drama, horror, anime, etc
A total of about 70 categories will be featured in the Category Hub, including not only the Top 3 and 15 personalized global popular categories, but also 55 more locally relevant categories. (But not all categories are available in every country).
This update shuffles the categories into an order customized for individual users. We don’t know how broad or specific these recommendations will be, so it will be interesting to see how it performs when the hub launches.
Netflix’s user interface changes frequently, and just last week, the company introduced a new “Two thumbs upwhich they most likely need as an ego boost after this week’s earnings. (Too early?).
The company often tests how it can help users find a show or movie to watch.
For example, last fall, it added a shuffle mode feature called Play Something for its app is designed to help undecided users find new content to watch.
Again recent update exclusively for Apple TV users, installed automatically for most customers. tvOS 15 player now shows Netflix shows and movie titles in a larger category at the bottom of the screen above the playback bar. Other updates include a new info button that displays content details, subtitles, runtime, and more. It also removed the swipe down functionality.
There’s something to be said for these additions, as user experience is becoming increasingly important due to the oversaturated market and higher intensity of competition.
