Prime minister Justin Trudeau and the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denial of Shmyhal meet in London Sunday to discuss the impact of Russia’s war, according to a new statement.
“The Prime Ministers discussed Canada’s support for Ukraine and work with like-minded partners to address the effects of Russia’s illegal and unjustified aggression on the country,” the statement read.

“They also discussed the importance of maintaining strong unity among allies and continuing to impose severe sanctions on Russia in the face of its invasion of Ukraine.”
Two prime ministers are in London for the funeral of Britain’s longest-reigning monarch, Queen Elizabeth IIwho passed away at the age of 96 on 8 September at Balmoral Castle.
Trudeau also expressed condolences on behalf of Canada to Shmyhal traveling to Ukraine in connection with a mass burial site found to have evidence that some of the dead were tortured.
During a press conference in Britain on Sunday, Trudeau said that Russia’s actions “clearly include war crimes”.
The mass grave near the northeastern city of Izium, recently recaptured by Russian forces, appears to be one of the largest discovered in Ukraine. Several bodies were found with broken limbs and ropes wrapped around their necks.
President of Ukraine Volodymr Zelenskyy said in a September 16 video to emphasize the importance of the discovery. He said more than 440 graves have been found in the area, but the number of victims has yet to be determined.
In addition to “horrific and heartbreaking atrocities”, Trudeau also congratulated Ukraine on its recent military achievements during a meeting with the country’s prime minister.
“Prime Minister Trudeau praised the courage and heroism of the Ukrainian people in working together to defend their country and their freedoms against the ongoing Russian attacks,” the statement read.
Ukraine’s financial situation was also discussed as Trudeau reiterated Canada’s financial support and leading role with the International Monetary Fund.
Shmyhal thanked Trudeau for Canada’s continued “military, financial and humanitarian aid” to Ukraine.
Both condemned Russia’s “increasingly persistent, indiscriminate and terrible attacks” and agreed to stay in close contact.
Meanwhile, in his first public comments on Ukraine’s recent battlefield achievements, Putin vowed to continue the war and warned that Moscow could intensify attacks on infrastructure. important strata of the country if Ukrainian forces target facilities in Russia.
