Via Adam Baskin: Adrien Broner revealed today that he and BLK Prime have parted ways without any fights, which he had on a 12-month, three-match, eight-figure deal with them.
It is unknown whether the 33-year-old former four-division world champion Broner (34-4-1, 24 KOs) will receive any of the guarantees he has under his contract with BLK Prime.
Broner says he’s healthy, combat-ready, and a free agent. Who would be interested in signing Broner is the magic question. It is unlikely that AB will return to PBC, which leaves Golden Boy Promotions and Matchroom Boxing the two options.
Is Broner heading for the skidrow?
Eddie Hearn has tried to sign Broner in the past, but no luck. For Broner’s sake, hopefully he didn’t burn his bridge by not accepting an offer from Hearn.
Looks like Broner is ready for garbage at this stage in his career because he cannot be refurbished. If he could, he would have it now by someone.
Unlike 24-year-old super-middleweight competitor Edgar Berlanga, who is sought after by all the top promoters, Broner is not expected to be chased by them because he is not young and his career has sunk in the past eleven years.
In the true sense, Broner hasn’t won a match since 2016so he’s not the ideal free agent any top promoter would want to sign.
With Broner seemingly unconcerned about how he and BLK Prime parted ways, it looks like AB has at least gotten some money. If BLK Prime had an early clause in the contract, that could explain why they went in a different direction from Broner.
It will be interesting to know what led to BLK Prime and Broner breaking up. Was that a low PPV for his recently canceled match against Mike Williams Jr? AB was supposed to play Williams Jr on February 25, but Mike suffered a jaw injury, leading to the match being cancelled.
