Adrien Broner vs Michael Williams February 25th on BLK Prime
Via Sean Jones: Adrien Broner will now face little-known lightweight Michael Williams next month on February 25 on BLK Prime PPV at Gateway Center Arena in College Park, Georgia.
Williams, 23, has mostly played against lesser opponents during his five-year professional career. He raised it once, losing to John Bauza by knockout in the fourth round in December 2021.
Williams has since returned to the journeyman’s circuit, stopping Julio Buitrago (13-36.3 KOs) in the third round last April. The kind of people that Williams can beat with no problem.
6’1″ tall Williams (20-1, 13 KOs) replaces the 39-year-old Hank Lundy as Broner’s opponent in his first three PPV matches on BLK Prime.
Lundy is currently suspended, according to Boxrec. He has lost his last four games since 2021, making him unusable as Broner’s opponent (34-4-1, 24 KOs).
Broner was originally supposed to face Ivan Redkach on February 25, but he was dropped last week due to advertising issues. BLK Prime doesn’t give Broner any problems with him facing a weak opponent.
Broner looks torn
Adrien has clearly lost a lot of weight, and if he can continue to show the discipline he showed in this camp, there’s no reason why he can’t drop back to his old weight class. at 135 & 130.
The opportunities for Broner at lightweight will be endless, and his prowess will likely be just as formidable as before as he takes down everyone.
Broner, 33, has done an excellent job of cutting down that huge belly that he started training camp with. His physique looks completely different from when he started camping.
With that said, Broner still needs to complete his midsection as he won’t hit the 140 lb limit for his bout, with Williams looking like he is now.
Of course, even if Broner misses out on a huge weight, that won’t keep the fight against Williams going because it’s not a title fight.
Looks like they gave AB the green light to make the first bout of his three-match contract as he’s been out of the ring for two years and hasn’t legally won a match since. 2016.
Though Broner has won a few games over the past seven years, those were controversial wins over Adrian Granados and Jovanie Santiago. If you’ve watched those fights, you know that Broner didn’t beat either guy.
