After summons, Amazon CEO charged in Madhya Pradesh drug case

Senior executives of Amazon’s local unit in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhind, about 500 kilometers from the state capital Bhopal, have been charged under drug law in an alleged case of cannabis smuggling, days after the summons was issued against them. Madhya Pradesh Home Affairs Minister Dr Narottam Mishra has warned of action against the online retailer, adding that guidelines will be formed for the state.
It is alleged that 1,000 kilograms of cannabis, worth about $148,000 (Rs 1,09,98,005.80), was sold through the online retailer.
While not disclosing how many executives have been charged, police said the case was filed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act due to inconsistencies in Amazon’s reply and evidence. that they collect.
On November 14, two men Suraj and Bijendra Singh Tomar, who ran a roadside dhaba, were arrested with 20 kilograms of ganja which they allegedly sourced from Visakhapatnam using Amazon, police said.
“They have been sourcing drugs using a major online shopping platform for the past four months. About a tonne of ganja have been sourced by them in the last four months using the same platform. The transactions are worth 1 .10 Rs crore took place during this time,” said Police Bhind Manoj Kumar Singh.
Madhya Pradesh Home Affairs Minister Dr. Narottam Mishra called it a matter of “great concern”, warning, “There are no guidelines for online businesses.
