Aleksander Ceferin compares Barcelona, Real Madrid, Juventus to pariahs in Super League race
UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin made a hit on Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus about their continued push for a European Super League and comparing clubs to equals.
A total of 12 top European clubs – led by Real Madrid president Florentino Perez – announced in April 2021 that they plan to create a new Super League and separate from UEFA’s established Champions League competition.

Following a hostile reaction from supporters and governments, the move fell through, with all six Premier League clubs plus Inter Milan, AC Milan and Atlético Madrid Withdrawal.
Last month, a court in Madrid rejected an offer from UEFA asked the judge who had ordered the Super League to drop the case, but Ceferin was adamant that the breakaway league would not happen.
“I have no problem with them [Barcelona, Madrid and Juventus]”, Ceferin said Le Journal du Dimanche. “But after they stabbed me and UEFA, I thought they would call.
“Like flat earth, they still think the Super League exists. At the same time, they are the first to sign up to play in this season’s Champions League.
“It’s a bit strange. But if they ask for a meeting, I’ll sit down. There’s nothing personal behind that. But the only thing we’ve heard from them are lawsuits that have no place. They’re trying. pressure everywhere.”
“No one wants it [the Super League] except for a few who think football is all about money. “
Ceferin also criticized FIFA’s proposal to hold the World Cups every two years, with the organization planning to hold men’s and women’s competitions every two years instead of four.
International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach said: The plan is a “threat” to other sports while football stars Kylian Mbappe and Robert lewandowski also expressed concerns about the player’s welfare.
“I’m sure that’s not going to happen because it makes complete sense,” added Ceferin. “It’s a populist project that will destroy football. It goes against all of our sporting principles. It’s not just bad for Europe.
“It is unbelievable that a football organization could propose that players, who are already under such heavy loads, play a month-long tournament every summer.
“Also imagine how much that would destroy women’s football? I’m not sure they understand but I’m sure they hear rejection from the fans, the authorities, the government, the European Union.”
