Alex Albon to race at Singapore Grand Prix after suffering appendicitis
Williams’ Formula One driver Alex Albon on Wednesday said he is ready to return to the track in Singapore after missing the previous race in Italy because of appendicitis.
Albon, 26 years old, spent a night in intensive care hospital at Monza earlier this month after suffering from respiratory failure due to complications following anesthesia surgery.
“My preparation for Singapore is a bit different than usual but I feel good and I’ve done everything I can to get ready for one of the most fitness races on the calendar,” he said.
“I don’t underestimate how big this challenge will be, but I’m looking forward to hitting the track on Friday and getting back to driving.
“It’s been a great street race and the closest home race for me in Thailand, so I’m really excited to be here and to see the fans turn up.”
Albon was replaced at Monza by Dutch substitute Nyck de Vries, who finished 9th on his debut and was still called up for Singapore.
