Washington capital star Alex Ovechkin scored his 800th goal — achieving the feat with a hat-trick against the Chicago Blackhawks on December 13, the 29th of his career.

Ovi is third on the all-time NHL scorers list, behind Wayne Gretzky (894) and Gordie Howe (801). The next most active player on the list is Sidney Crosby, in 34th place with 534 goals. With his 787th goal, Ovechkin sets a record for most of the goals scored with the same franchise. With his 793rd goal, he overcame Gretzky to win most goals scored on the road for a career (403).

Ovechkin scored twice in the Capital’s first match against Canuck Vancouver — first time unsupported and second time with help from dylan strome and Anthony Mantha. Ovechkin has now surpassed Wayne Gretzky for most all-time goals on the road.
