All equipped for super Saturday
Via Tom Fry
Despite all the excitement of the past few days, it spiked even higher on Saturday with nine group races across the UK, Ireland and France and the arrival of some of Europe’s most exciting 2-year-olds. It starts with the plants Oscula (Ire) (Galileo Gold {GB}) in Deauville as Nick Bradley Racing’s flag bearer making his seventh appearance since early July in the G3 Prix Daphnis and then switching between York, Sandown, The Curragh and back Deauville with speed will require video review later.
All eyes on the future and Debutante
Curragh’s Group 2 racers, Galileo Irish EBF Futurity S. and Alpha Centauri Debutante S., are the frontrunners for next month’s G1 Moyglare Stud S. and G1 Vincent O’Brien National S. and finally the Spring Classics with July 21 winner G3 Tyros S. Proud And Regal (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) defends his undefeated record against a pair of Ballydoyle TDN Rising Stars in Futurity. Ryan Moore chose to team up with maiden winner April 23 Navan Aesop’s Fables (Ire) (No, never) end Hans Andersen (GB) (Frankel {GB}), who beat the then winner Al Riffa (Fr) (Wootton Bassett {GB}) on this seven-minute ride and track on July 16. “I would be happy to ride him or Hans Andersen,” explains Moore of betfair Blog. “He’s pleased us at home, but I wouldn’t be one bit surprised when Hans Andersen takes this win.” In Debutante, Moore was the June 17 winner on G3 Albany S. Sitting Meditation (Ire) (No, never) as the July 21 scorer G3 Silver Flash S. The never ending story (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) arrives in Deauville for the G2 Prix du Calvados under the yard’s jockey Ioritz Mendizabal as Aidan O’Brien seeks to bid farewell to his elite juveniles. Eric Long Zoinnocent (Ire) (Zoffany {Ire}), who is half a second in Silver Flash, takes on the Meditation section in a compelling combination of important formal lines. Moore isn’t worried about meditating going on a new trip. “I don’t see moving up to seven feathers as a problem,” he said.
Strive for a hero
What will Britain give the winner of the Classic Queen in 2023? Step forward ‘Rising star TDN’ Desert Hero (GB) (Sea The Stars {Ire}) on Saturday when novice scorer Haydock arrived in Sandown for the G3 Fasig-Tipton Night Of The Stars Solario S., but the king got a second chance with his William Haggas-trained relative of Dartmouth (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}), who stamped Derby all over him on his genealogy. The opponent is Man Bun Lee and the impressive winner on July 9 Ascot of Miss Sally Wall Defense Of Fort (Ire) (Starspangledbanner {Aus}) who received a boost in form after the fourth Kyeema (GB) of that race (Siyouni {Fr}) joined a competitive incubator in York on Thursday. Notably, Peter Chapple-Hyam has yet to win this award and said of his £19,000 purchase of Tattersalls Ireland in September, “He could be a bargain – he’s just a touch more than Dutch Art and we have been quite fortunate to have acquired horses over the years. When I saw him, it was the way he walked that struck me. There is something about him. impressed by the way he won last time, but this is a step up. I soon got the feeling he was a good horse and let’s see if he can prove it.”
Thick and fast
Also at Sandown, the one-mile G3 JRL Group Atalanta S. for the field and mares played host to the Gosdens’ advancement. Grande Dame (GB) (Lope De Vega {Ire}), who bravely beat Oscula 3 1/4 lengths in the Listed Coral Distaff on July 2, and who identifies as a potential 1st group artist for the fall. The connection between Clarehaven is evident in York in the G3 Sky Bet and the Symphony Group Strensall S., where Saeed Suhail’s Mighty Ulysses (GB) (Ulysses {Ire}) looks set to continue onward after resting since his win on the list of Sir Henry Cecil S. at Newmarket on July 7. “He’s the horse we all know. I have always loved and have a lot of talent,” said Thady Gosden. Other highlights on the show during the afternoon frenzy were Sunderland Holding’s May 20 Listing Height winner and G2 Ribblesdale S. June 16 runner-up. Maritime Silk Road (Ire) (Sea The Stars {Ire}) during the G2 Prix de la Nonette of Deauville and G2 Top Scorer Lennox S. July 26 by Kirsten Rausing Sandrine (GB) (Bobby’s Kitten) at the seven-hairy York S on the Sky Bet City Of York S.
