Amazon has many different points Kindles are so beautiful identical in the way they performwith a small difference separating Kindle base are from White paper and Oasis. That’s mostly by design, and I don’t mind. i don’t need me e-book reader do 20 different things—I just want to read no distractions. But the new Kindle Scribe changes everything and is the first Kindle in a long time to add a new twist: the ability to write or draw on a whiteboard.
With the included stylus, you can take digital notes like a Notable 2, mark up PDFs or doodle on your downtime. This upgrade comes at a hefty price: The Scribe costs $340. That’s $240 more than the basic Kindle and $200 more than the Paperwhite. If you want to write more physical notes but don’t want to resort to paper and pen, it could be worth it.

I have not tried a Kindle that is not a good e-reader. That’s what they were made to do, with a simple and easy-to-navigate interface, and this holds true for Scribe. The change is the 10.2-inch screen, which feels huge compared to other Kindles. This can be annoying or beneficial—if your eyesight isn’t great, this size allows you to make the font quite large without making the page look too disjointed. You might not be able to fit it in your jacket pocket, though. I can still hold it with one hand without any problem as it is thin and light.
Scribe comes with a stylus, and that’s the main reason to spend a lot of money on the Kindle. There’s a new notebook section where you can create notes, calendars, to-do lists, and sketches. There are also different layout types you can choose from, such as different sized lines, grids and dots, plus weekly planners with blocked pages or daily pages timestamp. Each notebook can have multiple pages, or you can create as many notebooks as you want and organize them into folders.
If you need to view them elsewhere, you can share these notebooks via email. There is a quick send option to send it directly to your Kindle email, which I find really helpful. On your computer, you’ll notice more white space around the margins than on a device, something that’s especially apparent when using a blank page. It’s a minor issue, but you might have to crop it up a bit if you’re sending it to other people.
You can also bookmark PDFs, something that still feels like a hassle on a laptop. Anyone who works with PDFs can appreciate this—learning proofing points is my favorite part of English class, and I’ve never had to use them in real life, because so I’m happy to finally be able to do it on Scribe. You can send PDF files using Send to Kindle website or through the Kindle app on your phone. Amazon says that in the first half of 2023, Scribe users will also be able to send Word documents directly to Kindle. That opens up more possibilities for productivity.
